Machine Vision Expertise in Action: Application Examples
See for yourself how machine vision systems customised by STEMMER IMAGING can benefit your industry. Read about some successful applications we and our partners have developed to strengthen their competitive edge using machine vision.
Improving the quality of pharmaceutical packaging components
Ensuring that rubber stoppers and plungers used in pharmaceutical vials and syringes are free from defects is of paramount importance. To meet this requirement, the Dutch company Simac Masic has designed a reliable inspection solution. The high-speed vision systems were developed in cooperation with the experts from STEMMER IMAGING.
100% quality control for flying sausages
Together with BT-Anlagenbau, STEMMER IMAGING developed a sorting system for Wolf Wurstspezialitäten GmbH that uses high-precision vision components to reliably check the quality of Berner sausages. The innovative system, which enables the inspection of sausages in flight during the production process, detects undesired intestine residues from a size of 1 mm² ensuring the good products have a purity of 99.999% depending on the defect size.

FAQS
What is machine vision?
Machine vision is a technology that enables computers and machines to capture, process, and analyze images or video to automatically inspect, identify, measure, or make decisions about objects and environments. It is widely used all industries such as manufacturing, robotics, healthcare, and transportation to perform visual tasks with speed and accuracy.
What does STEMMER IMAGING supply for machine vision?
STEMMER IMAGING provides a manufacturer-independent portfolio of machine vision components - including cameras, optics, illumination, frame grabbers, cables, and software - alongside engineering support as well as the development of bespoke solutions and applications. Operating across Europe, the US, Brazil, and Mexico, we help customers select, configure, and deploy vision systems for industrial and non-industrial applications.
Which industries use machine vision?
Machine vision is used across virtually every manufacturing and process industry. Common applications include automated inspection in semiconductor fabrication, pharmaceutical packaging, food and beverage production, print and packaging, and transport and logistics. Non-industrial sectors including sports broadcast, agriculture, and defence also rely on machine vision systems.
What is the difference between machine vision and computer vision?
Computer vision is the broader scientific discipline covering how machines extract meaning from images in any context, including consumer and research applications. Machine vision - or industrial machine vision - is the applied subset focused on deterministic performance, real-time processing, and long-term reliability in industrial environments. Machine vision systems are designed for specific inspection or measurement tasks under controlled conditions.
What machine vision components does STEMMER IMAGING carry?
The portfolio covers the full range of machine vision hardware and software: area scan and line scan cameras, 3D cameras, optics and lenses, LED illumination, image acquisition cards, industrial PCs and cables, and machine vision software including CVB Common Vision Blox. STEMMER IMAGING is manufacturer-independent, meaning selection is based on application fit, not supplier preference.
